Figurative Drawing
The inspiration for these drawings comes from my travels around the world. Wherever I was based I set up a drawing workshop with local artists. Often these were figurative drawing workshops, but also included portrait work. There are some examples of these earlier works shown on this website.
The figurative drawings shown here are works of pastel and chalk on dark card. I like to use as few strokes as possible to quickly capture the essence of the model’s body. It’s an illusory even false study because the essential craft requires a well honed drawing technique and expert models to give the illusion of a momentary glance, capturing the model’s inherent warmth and vitality.
