I draw my inspiration from the ethereal light that filters through the clouds and mists swirling round the lochs and hills of the Scottish highlands and islands. I enjoy the fleeting glimpses of gold and silver on open water and try to capture this and the surprisingly colorful reflections from the land back into the clouds.

On settling in Edinburgh ten years ago I fell in love with the huge skies and developed my large format, Scottish Skyscapes. I work out of my studio at Custom House in Leith, where you can see my work by appointment.

My work invites the observer to look up from the land to the light in an ever-changing sky as it breaks through to reflect on water. I try to capture those momentary changes.
I photograph basic ideas while travelling and out walking. Ideas on colour, nuances and vistas: cobalt blues and earthy oranges, are recorded in notebooks and quick sketches while on site.
